B.J Allen and her band Blue Voodoo, with band members: Derek Daniels, Jerry Fuller and J.P.Hurd are spreading the word about Kirksville. Blue Voodoo has released 4 CDs in the past 10 years. Their CD, “The Storm” was in the top 8 Best Self Produced CDs in 2005-2006, and they have been to Memphis, Tennessee to compete at the International Blues Challenge twice. They are currently in Memphis again for the 3rd time, thanks to the MO Blues Society and their winning the blues competition in Columbia back in October.
This year seems to be a little different however. They are shaking up Memphis this year! BJ Allen and Blue Voodoo were featured on the King Biscuit Time in Helena, Arkansas yesterday and were interviewed by the famous Sonny Boy Payne. He has had the King Biscuit Time radio show since 1941, and has famous blues artists on throughout the years. This year…he featured Kirksville’s own Blue Voodoo! Today, they were featured on a radio show in Mississippi that was hosted by Bekka Brammlett, who has written songs for everyone from Travit Tritt to Faith Hill to Jonny Lang and has sung back-up vocals for all the greats, Eric Clapton, Vince Gill, Travis Tritt, Brooks & Dunn, etc… Well…she interviewed Kirksville’s own Blue Voodoo today on her show. I heard through the grapevine that the band played exceptionally well last night, and will compete again tonight the same exact set of songs for 25 minutes, but in front of a different set of judges. The judges will then decide who wins their venue. If they win their venue tonight, they will compete in the finals tomorrow night at the Orpheum Theatre on Beale Street in Memphis. This is quite the deal, and it sounds like they are making people aware of Kirksville, MO! Have a good weekend!
